Diesel Railcar rides this Sunday April 21st featuring Drivers Eye Views!
The railway is open this Sunday where our diesel railcar will be giving unlimited rides. In addition, the steam train will be running for pre booked driver experience. If you wish to see the steam train in action please note this does not haul our service train but is great for the little ones to see!
Steam Operating Day
Enjoy a day of travelling behind our resident steam engine on our vintage carriages. Unlimited rides and Colne Valley Railway attractions open subject to availability.
Diesel Operating Day
Enjoy a drivers eye view of the line riding on our diesel train. Unlimited rides and other Colne Valley Railway attractions open subject to availability.
HST Operating Day
The iconic High Speed Train is here in Essex although now in retirement the train travels at a gentler pace! Enjoy unlimited rides in the air conditioned coaches with on board buffet and bar. Other Colne Valley Railway attractions open subject to availability.
Miniature Steam Gala 18th & 19th May
A celebration of all things miniature along with visiting locomotives and visits to the restoration shed for Black 5 45163. More details to follow!
Our booking system is now live and tickets can be purchased in advanced for our operating days and events. Alternatively tickets can be purchased on the day from our shop on site. Filming
The Railway forms an ideal period setting for filming and photographic sets, using steam trains and staff in period costumes. With some of our more modern rolling stock the site can look equally good as a modern railway environment without the hassle of trying to film on the national network.
Volunteering
The Railway is mainly staffed by volunteers who keep the railway maintained and operational in all weathers. The railway is always in need for new volunteers to work in the many different departments such as guards, signal and telegraph, carriage restoration, engineering, diesel maintenance and support staff for the shop and catering.
We are a unique railway with a short running line but we do have many activities for families, including:

Our office is usually open Mondays to Fridays 09:30 to 16:00. We can take bookings for Driver Experience courses, Private hire of the Railway and Group Visits.
