COLNE VALLEY AT WAR

SUNDAY 8TH JUNE, 10 A.M – 4 P.M

Step back in time to the 1940s

The railway played a major part in the war effort, as it served many local airfields.

Why not join us as we go back to the 1940s? Step back in time and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the time.

There will be re-enactments at the railway, featuring the Home Guard, 1940's Dancers, evacuation trains and bomb trains. Many of our staff and visitors will be dressed in period costumes.

You may like to join the many visitors who dress up, and really feel part of the war effort.

---

Those confirmed to attend include:

  • ‘CIVIL DEFENDERS’ wartime re-enactment group
  • ‘THE MARAUDERS’ USAAF 9th Air force re-enactment group
  • DEREK WYNDHAM MAYES Author of ‘The Airmen of Ridgewell’
  • CIVILIAN CARS
  • 1940s DANCERS
  • WORKING SHIRE HORSE
  • AND MUCH MORE!

TRAIN SERVICES

Trains will be running throughout the day, and be sure to keep a look out for the evacuation train. As you may know, many children were evacuated out of the cities to the country for safety. Re-enactors on the site will add to the authenticity of your experience.

The railway also served many local airfields with supplies and munitions. There will be a demonstration bomb train running during the day.

Some trains may run late due to enemy action!
